Sweet violet (English violet)
Description: Sweet violet (Chinese: 堇菜科, 香堇菜) is a perennial species of the genus viola native to Europe and Asia, but has been introduced to North America and Australia. The flowers are aromatic, and normally either dark violet or white. The leaves and flowers are all in a basal rosette. The leaf-stalks have hairs which point downwards, and the plants spreads with stolons. The flowers are used to produce perfumes. The leaves are edible and commonly used in salads.
